Cozumel has expensive accommodation but found a very friendly safe budget hotel in the center of San Miguel.
Had big room with bathroom, cable TV, aircon and fridge for US$30. There were other budget places that were more expensive but without aircon or TV so this was a good place.
You can leave valuables at the front desk which are locked away.
