Stayed at Hotel Isabel.
Grand old colonial hotel within walking distance of the metro and the Zocalo.
Had enormous double room with big bathroom and cable TV for $27. The first room we looked at didn't have any windows so ask to see another if you're in the same boat.
Room also has a safe - definately store all your valuables here as Mexico City isn't the safest place.
